Cobham Colts Under 13s - 2009/10

Division 2

11 April 2010

Borstal 3 v Cobham Colts 4

This was an evenly contested match, in which, in the first half Borstal scored twice and Cobham hit the post twice. Borstal having taken their chances reached the interval with a 2-0 lead. The second half sparked more effort and the will to win from Cobham resulting in them getting back on level terms thanks to 2 goals from Jordan Campbell. But Borstal were not going to buckle and they regained the lead 3-2. Cobham’s will to win really began to show as Campbell scored his hat-trick goal and Matthew Thomas secured the victory with a side foot tap in from inside the 6 yard box. Both teams should be congratulated on playing excellent football on a dreadful playing surface.

Division 2

28 March 2010

Cobham Colts 2 v Woodpecker HI 4

This was a match between the second and third placed teams in the division. Cobham had as many chances as the visitors in the first half, but could not manage to score, and as a result found themselves 3-0 down at the interval. In the second half Cobham’s efforts in front of goal were rewarded with a goal by Matthew Thomas, but Woodpecker soon restored their 3 goals advantage. Cobham increased the pressure and their teamwork produced a second goal scored by Kieran Jones, but with time running out the points went to Woodpecker.

Division 2

21 March 2010

Cobham Colts 4 v Woodcoombe Youth 3

This was a match which had drama in both halves. In the first period Cobham used three different goalkeepers, due to injuries, which ended in their captain, Scott Jones, wearing the jersey and a half time score line of 1-1 with Jordan Campbell netting for Cobham. The second half looked to be going Woodcoombe’s way when they scored twice, the first from the penalty spot and the second a lob just under the crossbar. The visitors were looking good for all 3 points but Cobham battled their way back with 2 goals from Campbell insuring the drama for the second half. Cobham threw everything forward and were reward for their effort when Kieran Jones sent a left foot volley into net for Cobham’s winner.

Division 2

14 March 2010

Cobham Colts 4 v Omega 92 2

The first half of this match was an even affair with the visitors scoring the opening goal and Cobham, after sustained pressure, equalising with a goal from Jordan Campbell. Despite having the better chances to add to their score the home side had to be content with an interval score of 1-1. In the second half Cobham made more of their scoring chances and added three more goals, two for Campbell and one from Luke Bainbridge, before Omega ended the game as their had started with a goal.

Division 2

24 January 2010

Cobham Colts 6 v Borstal 1

With the bad weather, hopefully over, the 2010 part of the season got underway as Cobham entertained Borstal. Cobham opened the scoring early in the first half, when good team passing, lead to a goal by Kieran Jones. Cobham continued playing with commitment and took their advantage to 4-0 by the interval thanks to 2 goals from Jordan Campbell and one by Matt Thomas. In the second half Cobham added a further couple of goals by Thomas and Campbell, the latter thus completing his hat trick. Borstal’s goal, early in the second period, was an own goal, by of all people Cobham’s hat trick hero, Campbell.

Under 13’s League   13/12/09

Omega 92 Spartans 6 v Cobham Colts 1

In a first half, that ended 5-0, Cobham were completely undone by the speed of the Omega forwards, who feed on the high through ball, which they chased, outpacing the Cobham defence. However, the second half was much closer, with Cobham employing a sweeper system, which gave them a defence with more depth. The score line for the half was 1-1, the Cobham goal being scored by Baltej Gill with a volley from the edge of the penalty area, following good play from a corner.

Under 13 Division 2 29/11/09

Omega 92 2 v Cobham Colts 7

Both sides showed skills in cold and rainy conditions which in first half produced good end to end football resulting in an all square score line of 2-2. Cobham’s goals were netted by Jordan Campbell. After the interval the match rather went away from Omega as Cobham seemed to cope better with the ground conditions and they added 5 more goals. These second half goals being scored by Matthew Thomas, Alfie Smith, and another 3 from Campbell.

Under 13’s League Cup 2nd Round  15/11/09

Cobham Colts 0 v Horsted Youth 2

An excellent match played by two teams with equal talent that provided the spectators with an end to end game with defences coming out on top. This inevitably meant that when a goal came it was a fortunate one for Horsted when a defensive slide tackle rebounded off the forwards knee and beat the goalkeeper. Cobham tried hard to get a goal back but the nearest they came was a shot from Kieran Jones which beat the keeper only to be cleared off the line. Horsted’s second goal came as Cobham pushed forward in an effort to score an equaliser.

Under 13’s Division 2   8/11/09

Cobham Colts 2 v Anchorians 2

Their league positions suggested, that this would be a closely contested match, but in first half most of the attacking was done by Cobham who soon secured a two goal lead, both netted by Matthew Thomas. Anchorians ‘hung in’ and played themselves back into the match by scoring a well struck goal before half time. In the second half the roles were reversed and Anchorians, by taking command of the midfield, deservedly scored an equaliser. The last 20 minutes for both sets of supporters was of the ‘nail biting’ variety, especially when Cobham were given and missed a penalty, but I think in the end it was a fair result.

Woodpecker HI  2     Cobham Colts  2  (18/10/09)

Cobham did not play to their potential this week and although they led 2-1 midway in the second half, Woodpecker made the most of Cobham trying to make the match safe, by scoring to make it 2-2. At the interval Woodpecker led 1-0, but goals early in the second half by Luke Bainbridge and Jordon Campbell spurred Cobham forward, but the Woodpecker goalie pulled off several excellent saves.

Strood 87   0   Cobham Colts  11   (League Cup 1st Round 27/9/09)

This result seems to indicate a difference between second and third division football, as Cobham produced 5 goals in the first half, and a further six after the break. Strood were 3 goals down in the first 5 minutes as Jack O’Neill and Matthew Thomas (2) found the net and from then on it was only gallant football from the home side, especially their goalie, that kept them competing.  Cobham, however continued to play team football and Thomas achieved his hat trick and Luke Bainbridge scored before half time. Louis Palmer scored three, Jordan Campbell and Kieran Jones also found the net, and Strood’s unhappy afternoon was finished by an own goal.

Cobham Colts 4   Milton & Fulston Utd  0    (20/9/09)

A very good team performance from Cobham Colts secured their second win of the season. Excellent attacking wing play and a steady work rate from the home side, throughout the match, was shown by them scoring 2 goals in each half. The first half goals were well taken by Kieran Jones and Luke Bainbridge. In the second half Milton & Fulston defended with more determination, but Jordan Campbell still managed to find the net on two occasions to complete the score line.

Co-op Sports 1 v Cobham Colts 4   (13/9/09)

A new season and unknown opponents for Cobham as they opened with a match against newly promoted Co-op Sports. The first half was very evenly contested as both sides took time to settle. Cobham scoring first midway through the half with a goal from Jordan Campbell, but Co-op replied immediately, and it took another goal from Campbell to restore Cobham’s lead at the break. Cobham made the second half theirs with determined teamwork, adding 2 further goals, one from Sam Goddard and the other by Campbell, completing his hat trick.
