29 March 2009: Woodpecker 3 v Cobham Colts 3
Both sides were determined to win this match and this ensured an end to end battle which finished with honours equal. Cobham opened the scoring when Kieran Jones outran the defence to score with a volley off the underside of the crossbar. Back came Woodpecker with 2 goals to take the lead, the second from the penalty spot. Not to be outdone the visitors levelled again, thanks to Jones, to make the interval score 2-2. The home side were first to score in the second half but Cobham’s teamwork produce an equaliser and a hat-trick for Jones.
1 March 2009: Cobham Colts 1 v Sheerness East 2
Cobham just failed to stop Sheerness from continuing their unbeaten run in a match providing both determination and commitment from two clubs of even abilities. Cobham shaded the first half with solid defensive teamwork, a rocket shot against the crossbar from Kieran Jones and a turn and volley goal from Luke Bainbridge. This goal was all that separated the teams at half time. Scoring early in second half, Sheerness then had the momentum to add a second, and despite Cobham’s best attacking efforts, it proved to be the winner.
22 Feb 2009: Cobham Colts 2 v Walderslade 0
Cobham could have finished this game as clearer winners if their finishing had matched their approach play. Their efforts on goal seemed to hit everything but the back of the net. As it happened they relied on the alert play of goalkeeper Adam Sparks to stay all square at half time. Sparks continued to be impressive after the break and Cobham’s attack found their shooting boots with Sam Goddard scoring first with a close range effort and Louis Palmer getting the second, with dipping strike from the right which finished in the top left hand corner of the net. A real beauty.
Cobham Colts 6 v Bredhurst Juniors Youth 0
Cobham’s improved progress continued with an impressive display of team football against Bredhurst. Determined wing play and accurate crossing caused the visitors some discomfort for the whole match. Cobham’s midfield controlled the central area and good touch football from central defence helped Cobham take a 2-0 lead into the break with goals from Louis Palmer and Matt Thomas. After the interval Cobham continued the team effort and added 4 more goals which included a second for Louis Palmer, 2 for Luke Bainbridge and a well earned goal for Jack Harding.
30 Nov 2008: Cobham Colts 2 v Omega 92 2
Everything about this match was even. The teams were evenly matched, the score at half time was even at 1-1 and the final score was even at 2-2. In between the scorelines both teams showed football skills above their age group to give those watching a lot to cheer about. Cobham opened the scoring, thanks to an acute angled, left foot strike between the post and the goalie, by Kieran Jones. Omega equalised from the penalty spot and equality was established at half time. In the second half Cobham regained the lead when a Jack O’Neil shot was deflected for an own goal. But Omega never gave up and were rewarded with a goal to make everything even again.
23 Nov 2008: Cobham Colts 7 v Cliffe Woods 1
Both sides should be congratulated in providing an entertaining match in true winter conditions. Playing against the wind Cobham took a 1-0 lead into the break, scored by Louis Palmer, but Cliffe responded early in the second period to level the scoreline. Making the most of having the wind at their backs, Cobham created the better chances in the second half, and after several fine saves by the Cliffe goalie, scored six more goals these being scored by Luke Bainbridge (2), Jack O’Neill (2), Sam Goddard and Matt Thomas.
12 Oct 2008: Milton & Fulston Utd 2 v Cobham Colts 1
This was a very competitive game played between two closely matched teams and Cobham should feel that they did enough to have gained a share of the points, from this, their third consecutive away league fixture. The first half possession was slightly Cobham’s but they still trailed at the break 1-0 down, due to lack of enterprise in the penalty area. The second half was end to end football with United scoring to make it 2-0 and Louis Palmer netting for Cobham to give to home team a nervous last 4 minutes.
